The starting point for this work is a video from the “Public Information” section on the National Security Agency's official website. The footage shows Michael S. Rogers, Director of the National Security Agency and Commander of U.S. Cyber Command. The text stems from this video as well, but is reduced to words that are used in combination with the pronouns “we”, “our”, “us”, “you”, “your”, “they”, “their” and “them”. By using pronouns, no one is named or addressed directly and the listener is obliged to fill in the blanks in order to make sense of the information. Who are the “allies” and who the “adversaries”? “Our missions, our adversaries, our nation, our allies. We do this. Our accountability, our nation, our personnel, our nation's, our partners. We also provide our nation's, our enemies, our way of life. You'll see. That will give you our citizens. We hope you will enjoy our nation. Our adversaries, our national security, they can help us. Our adversaries, they are planning, they are using. Understand them. Share them. They can take our nation. We collect. They're not their operations. Our country, our adversaries. We target their signals. They try. Exploit ours. Our communications, our nation, our adversaries, our Information Assurance teams, our allies. Provide them. They need to keep their systems. Our adversaries. We design our leaders. We know our adversaries' information. They don't know ours. We have.”
