only what I see without looking in the mirror is me
In the pandemic context, there was more and more talk about intimacy, the need to rediscover your self and to live in your own interiority. However, the need for a connection with the outside world has become increasingly indispensable and vital. There is almost an intimate need to define one's own identities only through external landmarks and relationships with others. But how essential is external validation? How do we position ourselves on the world stage and what is the role of the outside world in our formation?
"only what I see without looking in the mirror is me" is a verse from a poem written by Svetlana Cârstean, in which the poet questions her own identity and what it is made of, what are the ways to self-knowledge and how easily we succeed to deceive ourselves in this complex process. Likewise, the authors of the selected videos seek to transcend their individuality and fully embrace the exterior for further interior restoration.
The boundary between inside and outside has become extremely fragile and blurred, and introspection has broadened its meaning, encompassing more than the limits of one's own self. The inner life of an individual is no longer strengthened only by any personal history, but by every element with which he interacts, either through relationships with others, or through virtual reality and social networks or through the relationship with the surrounding space.
