Charlie Dance's art brings elements together in often bizarre and surreal compositions to examine and test both the material and the audience. Images and their power are important, and understanding how they have been, are, and can be used for and against us is how Dance goes about making decisions. Through often unexpected image choices a vehicle is built to transport other, sometimes oblique, sometimes overt, currents of meaning and intention. Words also come into play, and are used to either strengthen or undermine the images they work with, ensuring the viewer is drawn in by the works, but continues to be completely conscious of their own thoughts. Dance was born in 1986, studied at the Glasgow School of Art and the Dutch Art Institute. He currently lives in Warsaw, Poland.
