Strange Place For Snow

This video was filmed in Berwick upon Tweed a historical border town in North of England. It was produced working with local actresses and dancers and filmed in venues with significance to the Berwick Futures’ regeneration plan. It is a fictional work portraying a woman’s interaction with her environment, inundated with uncertainty while she explores the changing architectural landscape of the town. The text is borrowed from H G Wells’ novel The Time Machine, while the costumes are adapted from Mayakovsky’s futurist play The Bed Bug. Both fictions featured a time machine and discovery of a new future society. The principle of the Moebius strip was used in editing to subvert and structure the space and time of this video. The work explored the space of anticipation, anxiety and strategy. The cryptic narrative opened doors to different interpretations.
